ANTHROS

is the namesake line of objects and leather goods by Anthros Bench-Made, a modest handtool woodshop and leather studio established by Jaenett Diaz in Brooklyn, New York.

She considers organic form, lasting utility, and natural, malleable material the heart of her design ethic.

Each object is cut, formed, and finished individually by Jaenett in her studio, using full-grain vegetable tanned leather that has been tanned ethically and sourced from the highest quality tanneries in the US.

----------

Apart from Jaenett’s in-house line, she creates custom leather objects shaped for specific spaces, often in close collaboration with hospitality and design studios, and the creators behind renowned restaurants, hotels, and bars.

Her work tends to live quietly in interior settings; on tables, at entries, in rooms, and in the hands of guests. These are spaces where detail is the language, and materials carry weight. She works with collaborators who share a sensitivity to texture, presence, and atmosphere. She approaches these collaborations as an extension of her tactile and thoughtful material studies in form and function, allowing each leather piece to quietly find its place within the story of a space.

If you’re working on a project that values quiet detail and material presence, I’d love to hear from you.

(Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Leather)

Vegetable tanned leather has been tanned using tannins and other ingredients found in tree bark and vegetable matter. This method of tanning has been in existence for thousands of years. Among the various tanning methods, "vegetable tanning" is the most traditional, natural and environmentally friendly. Vegetable tanned leather is unique in the way that it will age and develop rich, warm tones from the natural tannins that are used. Leather is a natural material and is subject to variation in color and texture from hide to hide. Full-grain leather is the highest quality leather available and is not altered with a faux “corrected” surface- it instead showcases the beauty and character of true leather grain. Each piece of leather possesses its own marks, color, grain, and may vary depending on the hide it is cut from. These are not imperfections, but characteristics that make each item unique and one of our favorite mediums to work with. Small irregularities such as light scratches or blemishes may be present and should be considered a natural quality of the material. Natural leather ages in color, specific to your use; it will darken with exposure to the sun, natural oils, and water.

(Natural Beeswax and Plant Oils)

Natural beeswax and plant oils gently condition vegetable tanned leather, nourishing it while preserving its unique character. Beeswax creates a breathable, water-resistant barrier that protects the leather from moisture without sealing it off, allowing it to age gracefully. Plant oils penetrate the fibers, restoring flexibility and keeping the leather soft and supple over time. Together, they support the leather’s durability and enrich its warm patina as it develops. These natural, non-toxic ingredients reflect a thoughtful and sustainable approach to leather care, perfectly suited to the slow, tactile process behind each piece.
